background
I am an applied biogeochemist in the field of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Cornell University. I study human influences on ecological processes. I am originally from Queens, New York City. My appreciation for the great outdoors didn't develop until I was in college, but I inherited my love of plants from my father, who is an avid gardener. Learning about how plants and their belowground counterparts survive in a world dominated by human innovation, protection, and destruction, is fascinating. I am especially interested in conducting research which can inform sustainable land management in East Africa. As a McNair Scholar and Fellow, I've seen firsthand how effective mentorship can give underepresented scholars the support we need to thrive in academia. As a result, I strive to be the black female mentor I never had for future generations of underrepresented scholars. In the little time I have not relinquished to research- and school- related duties, I enjoy hiking, reading novels, doing yoga, and traveling.
